Mims Elected Attorney General of Virginia

description

This press release discusses the mid-term transition between Attorney Generals. Former Attorney General Robert F. “Bob” McDonnell resigned from office in order to run for Governor. As this happened between elections, the General Assembly elected a new Attorney General to serve until the new Attorney General is elected.

How are Attorney Generals usually chosen? Why is this case special? What does this show about the relationship between different branches of state government?

Robert McDonnell resigned from office in order to focus on his political campaign. Why didn't he serve as Attorney General and campaign at the same time? How might he begin his political campaign?
