The Virginia Declaration of Rights

description

George Mason wrote the Virginia Declaration of Rights in 1776. He drew inspiration from the English Bill of Rights (1689). However, Mason made several changes to the English version, such as removing hereditary positions in government. The Virginia Bill of Rights was also the foundation for the Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the U.S. constitution.

What is the Bill of Rights? What role did George Mason play in the creation of the Bill of Rights? How do the contents of the Virginia Declaration of Rights compare to the Bill of Rights?
